The Broom Lady

The Broom Lady is a short documentary centered on a craftswoman in Heritage Village at the South Carolina State Fair. The piece documents the traditional broom making process while also highlighting her interactions with fairgoers and her personal connection to the work.

Through interview footage and observational b-roll, I captured the tactile details of her craft alongside conversations that reveal why the role matters to her. By balancing close-up process shots with moments of public engagement, the video situates her not just as a worker, but as a storyteller and cultural presence within the space. I handled filming, audio recording, and editing, shaping the narrative to feel grounded, intentional, and attentive to both detail and perspective. This project reflects my interest in documenting people whose work preserves tradition while actively engaging community.
